Factory Process and Equipment Noise: Engineering Controls

The purpose of this presentation is to review the need for engineering controls to address high noise levels within factory “in-plant” settings to within OSHA guidelines.

At the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the 8-hour time weighted average noise level set by OSHA that requires the implementation of a hearing conservation program.
  2. Identify the three main characteristics of effective noise control.
  3. Describe the advantages of implementing engineering controls in lieu of personal protective equipment.
  4. Compare the different products used for controlling noise in a factory setting.

John Sofra is Market Manager for Kinetics Noise Control. John is responsible for the North American territory for the airflow attenuation, industrial, and environmental markets. John has been with Kinetics Noise Control for 17 years. Previously, he spent 15 years holding various positions, including acoustics division manager, for a national sheet metal duct and fitting manufacturer located in Columbus, Ohio. John’s current team is made up of many sales and engineering professionals focused on airflow and acoustics. John has been involved in ASHRAE, ASTM, and AMCA during his many years in industry.
